Jenner Donate £2,800 to RNLI Walmer

Team Jenner joined family members and personnel from RNLI Walmer at the lifeboat station on a sunny Monday morning to make a donation of £2,800 in memory of Jenner’s former employee and lifeboat crew member John Collins who died earlier this year.

Following John’s untimely passing, Jenner wanted to raise funds for the RNLI Walmer, where John had been a crew member for more than twenty years. The team started this fundraising effort by partaking in the Hythe Bay Sprint Triathlon, which featured a 250m swim, 15km bike ride and a 5 km run. Following this, Jenner made RNLI Walmer their nominated charity at their annual golf day held in France with contributions made by their clients to grow the total.

Martin Sandall, Managing Director said, ‘We’re really proud that we could raise this money in memory of our colleague John. We hope that we could raise this money in memory of our colleague John. We hope this amount will go some way in helping the Walmer crews to continue the excellent work they do, day in, day out saving lives at sea.’

John Collins joined the RNLI at Walmer in 1982 and became helm on both the D Class and Atlantic lifeboats. On one particularly hazardous rescue assisting a yacht which had run aground on the Goodwin Sands in gale force winds, John fell overboard between the lifeboat and the yacht and had to be hauled back abroad by his colleagues. Despite this he immediately set about continuing to assist in the rescue of the three yachtsmen. For this rescue Jogn and the other two crew members received a signed letter of thanks from the RNLI.

Walmer Lifeboats Operations Manager Denis Brophy said, ‘I had great pleasure working with and going to sea with John. Even after his retirement in 2002 he continued to show great interest and would visit whenever he could. He was a true asset to the station.’
